How to Apply and Clean Auto Glass Tinting

Auto glass tinting is an extremely helpful tool that savvy car owners can use to protect their interiors, reduce road glare and more. Unfortunately, most vehicle owners don’t know how to properly install and maintain glass tinting. Installing glass tinting incorrectly can result in unsightly wrinkles and bubbles that actually impair a driver’s ability to see correctly.

Before you begin installing auto glass tinting, it’s important to stay up to date on any state and local regulations that may affect the level of tint that you’re allowed to install. Many states, for instance, require transparency of at least 70 percent.

If you’re unsure about installing your own window tinting, you may want to consider working with a company specializing in mobile auto glass repair in Oklahoma City, OK. Working with a professional is the best way to ensure that you’re installing high-quality auto glass tint that will work effectively and last as long as intended.

Here are just some of the steps necessary to install auto glass tint correctly:

  • Wash thoroughly: Firstly, you’ll need to thoroughly cleanse the inside of your car’s windshield and windows with a solution of warm, soapy water. The auto glass needs to be entirely free of any dirt or debris, as it will cause the film to bubble and not adhere correctly.
  • Separate the film from the liner: Using two pieces of clear tape, slowly separate the film from the backing. As the adhesive is exposed, spray it generously with the same soapy solution used to clean the inside of the glass.
  • Dampen the window: Next, spray the glass with the soapy water solution again. Make sure that the entire surface of the window or windshield is completely wet with soapy water, from edge to edge.
  • Roll out the film: Roll out the film slowly, with the adhesive side facing the glass. Carefully align the film with the glass, and begin unrolling it as you press it against the glass. Use extreme caution during this step, as failure to properly position the film could ruin it.
  • Spray and squeegee: After the film is positioned over the glass, spray the soapy solution over the side of the film facing into the car’s cabin. Then, use a squeegee to remove excessive moisture from both sides of the film.
  • Smooth and position the film: Using your fingers, smooth out any wrinkles that may have formed while installing the film. Take a utility knife to cut away any excess film that’s hanging off the side of the glass.
  • Let dry: Keep the glass stationary, with lots of airflow, for at least three days. Avoid rolling up or rolling down the window until you’re certain the adhesive has bonded to the glass.
